Garter View: This photograph of a Garter Snake (Thamnophis) was taken at West Thompson Lake in Thompson Connecticut. The garter snake is the Massachusetts state reptile. Garter Snakes were long thought to be nonvenomous, but recent discoveries have revealed they produce a mild neurotoxic venom.
