Description
Great Egret Elegance: This photograph of a Great Egret was taken from my kayak at Roseland Lake in Woodstock Connecticut. The word "egret" comes from the French word "aigrette" that means both "silver heron" and "brush," referring to the long feathers. Egret's are usually colored white or milky white. In the 19th & early 20th century, some of the world's egret species were endangered due to hunting, since hat makers in Europe and the United States demanded large numbers of egret plumes for the making of hats. Let's not make this same mistake again!!

Oh Maria; Thank you so much! Your note inspires me to continue what I have been doing. Having a broken foot has really caused a damper on my photography as of recent. I cannot wait to heal and to get "out there" again!!
