Description
Run Forest Run: This photograph of a White-Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) was taken in Pomfret Connecticut in 2011. This female deer was startled when she stumbled across me while I was crouching in the middle of a farm field looking for flowers. I can still hear her grunts and heavy breathing as she galloped within feet of me. Females enter estrus (the rut) in autumn (normally in late October or early November). Females give birth to 1 to 3 young spotted fawns in mid to late spring.
